HISTORY
Since its humble beginnings in 2011 as merely a Gloria, and its introduction at the St. Albans regional Celebrate Conference, the Mass of St. John Fisher has expanded and evolved.
Based on feedback from musicians, choirs and congregations, more parts of the Mass have been added, and some of the original ones modified in some way (or in some cases, completely rewritten), enabling it to become a complete Mass setting.

When I began composing the Mass of St. John Fisher, I wanted it to be a modern and contemporary setting of the 2010 English translation of the Mass. To bind it together as a canon of parts with musical unity, I wanted it to call on common, recognisable motifs throughout, and yet, it was important to me that the setting of each part/prayer should appropriately reflect its place in our liturgy.
Most importantly though, this Mass is for congregations to enjoy singing – from the outset, I wanted it to be catchy and easy to pick up; I hope I’ve achieved all that.

THANKS
I owe thanks to so many people for their support along the way, especially to two communities. Firstly, to those at the Marshalswick Mass Centre in the parish of Ss Alban & Stephen in St. Albans), and secondly, to those in my current parish, Ss Francis & Thérèse Catholic Church in Northampton – always encouraging, always helpful and forever patient.

Special thanks to so many musicians too, including Eamonn & Dominic, to Jo & the late Mike (RIP) at CJM Music, whose music ministry has always been an inspiration to me, and to Alan & Paul at the Society of St Gregory for their constructive feedback. Thanks too to Fr. TJ and the late Fr. Tom (RIP) in St Albans and Fr. Stanley in Northampton who all allowed me the space and freedom at their Masses to make changes, week in, week out; finally to Bishop David for his support and endorsement.
Thanks to Rosa for the fabulous creative artwork, and last but certainly not least, thanks to my wife, Gill, for invaluable feedback, for singing with me, and for endless patience.

I dedicate this Mass to the late Mario, a great friend, with whom I had so many discussions and on whom I could always rely for constructive critique.

Cantors, musicians, choirs, please enjoy the Mass of St John Fisher, teach it to your congregations, and use it in your parishes as much as you want to.
